My Students
Our school is located in a poverty stricken Neighborhood. Most of my students are raised by single parents that don’t work and or elderly grandparents that have limited income. Several of them were displaced due to hurricane Harvey.
Most of my students do not have school uniforms.
They wear clothes that appear to have been passed down which often times are too big and their shoes are worn out. Some times they come to school with their hair not combed and it doesn’t appear that they have bathed or brushed their teeth. There are times that some of my kids sleep in class in the morning.
My kids seem eager to learn inspite of the circumstances that are out of their control. They walk into their classroom where they are greeted with a warm smile, print rich environment and a secure place. They can predict how their day will flow due to our repetitious daily schedule. My concern is that we are extremely limited in our resources.
My Project
My students will benefit from having technology in the classroom to help them with phonics, phonological awareness and reading . The use of technology is crucial with today’s kids. It seems to spark their interest because they see the use of technology as a mean of playing yet they are learning through play. This form of technology meets the needs of learners that are auditory, kinistetic, tactile learners and more. The use of mobil technology allows the learners to relax and be more mobil as they learn. Students can pair up and learn together which could also lead to peer tutoring.
