Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
For the second year in a row, I will be having the privilege of re-teaching students. Many of my former third graders will be joining my class as fifth graders in the fall. Given the dramatic world events, they had a unique end to their fourth-grade year.
As a result, we are spending the second half of our school year apart and need to get creative with our resources.
I am requesting materials to make distance learning more successful. We are a Title 1 school on the East Side of Las Vegas. Many of our families are in the service industries and with much of the Las Vegas Strip shut down, our community is hurting.
My Project
I am requesting several dozen new picture books to model lessons with my fifth graders. By the time they are in fifth grade, they have heard many of our go-to books, so it is time to expand our library!
We are focusing on social-emotional learning as well as ensuring our literature is more inclusive and diverse to best represent our community.
Books like "The Eyes that Kiss in the Corners", "Just Ask", and "Don't Hug Doug" celebrate racial, cultural, ethnic, and neurological diversity in a child-friendly way. Many of my students are quite interested in the environment and animals, which account for several more books in my project. Thank you for your consideration in donating to our classroom.
