Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

We have 20 amazing 3,4 and 5 year olds. Many of these are English language learners with Spanish, Arabic, or Somali as their primary language. They are very inquisitive, excited and motivated to learn.

They absolutely love our space and everything we have to offer.

They enjoy playdoh, silly circle time songs, lots of movement and meal times. We have created a true community where we respect others thoughts, views and experiences. I absolutely love their innocence but most of all their desire to learn and grow each day!

My Project

Portfolio binders, literacy and math manipulatives will give both parents and teachers an opportunity to keep track of the child's growth throughout the school year. Working as a team, we will always know what our next steps will be to ensure each child is successfully prepared for Kindergarten! The children have a choice in the pieces that they are adding to the portfolios and in doing so take ownership of their own education. They reflect on what they are able to do with the manips, what they need to work own and problem solve ways they can grow. This empowers them to do the same throughout their education. They love these every year!
