My Students

I love teaching in the public schools of Wilmington, Delaware. At our high school, we teach, welcome, and learn from ALL our students. The variety of backgrounds enriches our school community. The relationship between teachers and students at Concord is close and probably the distance in those relationships has been the hardest part of this pandemic. I miss my students more than words can explain.

My Project

Simple educational supplies can make learning about history and literature more engaging and fun. Students really do love to learn and when learning can bring out their creative, competitive, or inventive talents, the experience lasts much longer than the class bell. The white boards allow for students to engage in socratic questions, team responses, and review games, especially in a hybrid setting. The light coverings are something my students and I have both requested because of the increase in migraines (students and teachers) due to the super bright incandescent classroom lighting, and extensive screen time. For many, the classroom is the only quiet environment my students can read in and the reason why so many are choosing hybrid-to find a suitable learning space. The light covers will provide an immediate relief. Another supply I would like is post it paper so that I can have students in the classroom share out their work to those on zoom as well as display their work in class. Also, the easel pad papers are movable and allow the students in the classroom to create graphic organizers, writing process steps, and list analysis vocabulary.

I want to excite students to engage in the opportunities that the hybrid model of learning offers and encourage them toward the eventual full time return to class.
