I am an Elementary Gifted and Talented Teacher (ACE Program) at two schools in my district, and serve students in 2nd-5th Grade. My students come from a variety of different backgrounds and socioeconomic status. We have found that my student learn best when they have a comfortable and flexible learning environment. Having the choice for alternative seating helps my students to focus on their lessons.
Unfortunately for our classrooms, some of our comfortable and flexible seating options are way past their prime.
At one school, our ottomans that we use for storage and flexible seating for students are beginning to rip apart at the seams. They are still being used, but probably not for much longer.
At my other school site, my teacher desk chair is actually an old, poorly constructed dining room chair. The legs are wobbly and the seat is ripped. Students are also allowed to use this chair for flexible seating... however, it is beginning to fall apart. Please help us to get new options!
