Help me give my students math manipulatives as well as rewards for positive behavior.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Hurst's classroom raised $321

My Students
My students are in a low-income area. Their parents work a lot in order to support them. It is difficult for parents to take time off to be in the school volunteering. These students face struggles such as lack of food and basic necessities, yet they are so resilient. I grew up in this community and faced many of the same challenges that my students face every day. I chose to teach here with the hopes of inspiring at least one child. The students at our school have so much potential!
Each year, my students love to help each other succeed, and they assist me in creating a classroom that cares!
I am in awe of the things they do to help each other daily.
The students at this school are becoming very excellent at technology and they are always teaching me new things. Our school now has 1:1 technology and the students are loving it. They are taking ownership of their learning through their data books and are reaching new heights all the time.
My Project
Students love to be rewarded for positive behavior. I have a store in my classroom that the students can purchase items using their Class Dojo points. They use their points like money and it helps them to understand the use of money. There are times that I walk around the room and give out treats just to give my students a little energy boost while helping them stay on task.
Every year I try to find new ways to teach concepts, over the past few years I have found that food/candy are the best math manipulatives.
The students get so excited to eat their manipulatives when they are finished making arrays with their Skittles or graphing how many of each color M&M they have. Math lessons with candy as manipulatives are the lessons that my students are the most engaged in.
Please help me incentive my students and make their learning memorable and delicious.
