Candy Counts When We Calculate

Help me give my students real-life math experiences using candy as counter and also help me provide a safe, sanitized classroom environment.

My Project

I love that my students want to learn. It's really just that simple. No matter how difficult the task, they use all of the tools provided to show their mathematical thinking. This makes my heart sing, because when they first joined my math groups, many did not like math at all. That mindset has shifted as students are relating math to everyday activities such as: buying food and playing games. Using Skittles and other candies keeps students engaged and helps them grasp many mathematical concepts using hands on strategies.

While we are moving past Covid restrictions, we must be vigilant in ensuring our students and staff safety.

Unfortunately, our district does not provide adequate supplies. Lysol and tissue are still very necessary. Every day I make sure to wipe down surfaces and keep Kleenex readily available. Having an inviting room filled with sweet candy and sweet scents makes learning all the more enjoyable.
