Candy and Chips: Make Math Stick

My Students

My students are a diverse group of 6th to 8th graders. Inside each and every one of them is a desire to achieve at grade level in math class. We believe in diversity. In fact, we have a consistent population with about 15% being served under special services. We want donors to know that our families and students appreciate their support. Also, I asked my students' what they like about their school. One student said, "I like my teachers". One said "it is fun". One said "we make learning fun."

My Project

The students will be able to enjoy a sweet or salty snack as a reward for academic progress. Kids are always hangry. Yes, I said hangry. A little treat will help motivate them to try for success.

When given a chance at a reward choice, food is the top choice for kids.

It is a great way to tell them they are loved.

The light filters will soften the harsh lights for a more serene atmosphere. The soft balls are also a favorite. The kids will get work done just to have a chance at playing catch with the soft balls. This is no problem, even in our small room. With a few guidelines, students can play and not hurt each other and avoid breaking the equipment in our room.

Truly, little things make a big difference. These items add up, so I would appreciate the opportunity to provide my students with a little reward and a nice environment to learn in.
