My students need the MacBook and ink cartridges to research and print pictures of what their Canadian artwork should look like and their finished artwork and projects.

Each year I try to expose my students to a new culture through our collaboration with Memphis in May, in which Canada is the honored country this year. By the time they graduate, students should have the opportunity to experience the customs and cultures of 12 different countries.
My students attend a Title 1 school with 98% of the student population living at the poverty level.
The students do not let their present circumstances dictate how bright their futures may glow. Many of our students are unable to receive proper support from home because of various reasons. Many of their parents have a minimal education but they do want better for their children. However, these are some extremely bright students that are always eager to learn. The students enjoy exploring alternative methods of learning. They tend to grasp the concepts better when it’s not the traditional way of learning. The students enjoy having some time to research facts outside of the mandated curriculum.
My students will research Canadian culture and symbols and explore a few ways of how we differ from our northern neighbors. Students will be able to see how in many ways we look alike, however we each enjoy our own rich heritage. Students will work in collaborative groups to research American and Canadian cultures. Next they will identify and create famous Canadian symbols, through drawings, interactive sketches, and 3-D models. Hopefully this exposure will lead the students to want to learn more about American and Canadian culture. This is a small yet effective way of empowering students through art.
The students will need the MacBook and ink so that they will be able to research and print their information and work on it at various times throughout the day.
After researching and printing the students will be able to create their projects. Through this project students will have experienced a culture from a country that they may visit or live in eventually. Hopefully this experience will spark the students interest and make them want to investigate Canada more in depth.
