My Students
Have you ever wrote something and you thought it was well-written? Did you believe that it should be shared with the entire class? Did you need help getting your ideas together? Have you ever had an answer that was close to the answer the teacher gave but with a different wording?
So how did you share with the class?
That is a question my class of third graders, now fourth graders, pondered all year. We wanted to share our work with each other or the whole group but were unable to because we had no way of projecting it on the board for all to see. If we had a document camera, we would be able to share, correct, give suggestions, edit, or comment on each others work and because a community of learners. Often we had to sit on the carpet and hold out papers up with the hopes that we could all see the writing on the paper and making effective corrections during the writing process where done either with the teacher on in groups of two. As the teacher, there were many "teachable moments" that I could have taken advantage of but could not because there was always someone who could not see or an inadequate supply of paper to make copies to share.
My Project
Therefore, if we had a document camera, I could project the paper that needs modifications for the whole class to see and make the corrections immediately, taking advantage of those "teachable moments". Additionally, with a document camera, I can project objects like rocks, 3-d shapes, etc. for closer examination and further the learning in science and mathematics.
Please help us see what we cannot see right now.
Make it possible to transform "teachable moments" into rigorous everyday instruction. We really need this resource and plan to use it EVERY DAY!!!
