D.C. Reeves is a public school that is located in the rural community of Ponchatoula, Louisiana situated about 50 miles north of New Orleans. We have an enrollment of over 700 third and fourth grade students. After the destivating hurricane season, we enrolled over 50 students who were displaced by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. "Can You See It?" is a project proposal to help students observe living organisms grown in the classroom. As the science teachers, we afford our students with many hands-on learning experiences. During our living organisms units, we observe a variety of plants that we grow from seeds, cuttings, and other plant parts. During the animal portion of our living organism units, we observe and raise a variety of animals from worms, to beetles, to triops,to chickens,etc. "Can You See It?" will provide a digital microscopes that can be attached to our scan converters for viewing the organisms on the TV screen and capturing digital pictures of their life cycles. The QX3 School Edition Computer Microscopes purchased through this project will enable our students a new and innovative way to integrate images taken to create presentations for assessment of student understanding of the life cycles of organisms.
