This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the magic you felt when you first painted a masterpiece in kindergarten? The paints and brushes seemed to have endless possibilities. I am lucky to be the first person who gets to introduce these materials to most of my students. They love making projects!

I am the Art specialist in a K-5 Arts school.

We are located in one of the poorest rural areas of the state. Our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates. I see about 975 students every week, from Kindergarten though grade five. All of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The student population is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. About 70% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language.

My Project

My students need a drying rack for their art projects. We don't have a good place for our pictures to dry. Right now, we spread them on the floor, but little feet do a lot of damage when they step on something by accident. We've had many tears over spoiled pictures. A rack like this would save our pictures and help my young artists reach their true potential.

In these tough economic times, there are not a lot of resources to go around.

Thank you for considering my project and making a difference for some precious little ones. Watching them experience these new materials is one of my greatest joys. Thank you so much for helping us.
