Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach kindergarten in a Title I school in a high need area. We have over 80% of our students on free or reduced lunch. Due to the budget cuts our school has very limited resources available to our students, and even fewer resources available to the teachers!
Technology has taken a back seat to being able to provide the basic supplies such as copy paper and pencils for our students.
Our classrooms only have two computers for students. Many of the computers are outdated and do not function properly. There are very few opportunities to explore with other forms of technology. I would like to be able to provide that opportunity to my students.
My Project
You can help be a part of that solution. Last year, we received a digital camera from very generous donors. This all-in-one printer gives me the ability to print the pictures that the students take with the camera. It also gives me the ability to make a last minute copy for a new student, print an Internet resource for a parent who has just stopped by with a question asking how to help their child, or make a class set of copies for a fun activity. The copier/printer/scanner helps to add another dimension to learning, and helps the students take ownership for their learning!

Being able to put their knowledge to use with a camera, and displaying it for all to see immediately in a printed photo, could help to make that ah-ha moment for a student that otherwise wouldn't have made a connection! It is a tremendous help for me to have immediate access to a copier/printer for parents. It is also a necessity to be able to have classwork for every student at the time of the activity.
