Can You Hear Us Now? Helpful Headphones in Title I Kindergarten
Help me give my students access to higher quality headphones that are compatible with their online assignments to increase focus and attention during independent work.
During my first year (2024-2025) of teaching Kindergarten, I literally spent the entire year FIGHTING with headphones during independent learning time. Headphones were required for each student and bought by families, and each student had a different pair that had different features. Independent learning time was sacrificed each day due to dealing with complications from headphones, whether it was the cords messing up, the jacks not fitting into the school issued laptops, having to press and hold the sound amplifier buttons in order to hear ANYTHING...it was infuriating for myself and my assistance and did nothing to help my students. We wasted SO MUCH LEARNING TIME, and I am determined not to let it happen again.
This project would allow me to provide my Kindergarten students with their own pair of headphones to use/keep at school, which is a HUGE deal at a Title I school like mine as most families struggle to supply the basic necessities for students.
I would also have an additional class set for backup if something were to happen with the headphones, which is bound to happen at some point as accidents happen and technology experiences wear and tear. Having this project funded would be one less thing for my parents to have to buy and ensure each child does not experience the feeling of being left out or not having "the trendiest type of headphones" as they are all uniform. It would also increase productivity in the classroom and lead to more independence for students and less stress for teachers (which is always helpful in public education!)
