My students are fifth graders from low-income immigrant families. They are English language learners. All of our students qualify for the free meal program. We are a Title I school as well as a Performance Improvement School. Many of my students are struggling to learn and understand English with no help from their parents. The children love science, but our learning is limited to textbooks, paper, and pencil. I know that if we provide them with the right support, resources, and opportunities, they can experience success. To ease the struggle, your donation will help me and motivate our English Learners the importance of financial literacy. Students learn more by practicing concepts in many ways such as team activities, games and real life connections.
My Project
Teaching students about financial literacy is important because it helps young minds to discover the relationships between earning, spending and saving. In doing this, children also begin to understand the value of money.
With your donation, students will learn about budget, balancing checkbooks, the stock market, and investing.
At the end of the budget study, students will be able make a presentation about their findings, and make good financial decisions in the future. They will learn how to plan and budget for a trip, save to buy a house, and learn the basic day-to-day budgeting. Students will learn that if they save money and spend wisely they will have extra money to spend in other items that otherwise they would not have.
We need a laminator and pouches to create math centers to help students with math. We will use the earphones to allow the students to hear and better understand financial literacy lessons from the internet. The donations will not only provide my students with an interactive and intriguing learning experience, but will also greatly assist them in meeting the Common Core's goal of being career ready and college bound.
