This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This year I am proud to be the team leader at my school. This means the world to me as this was my elementary school. As their coach/leader, I can experience so many of the different learning environments.
Seeing so many of my students every morning with the eagerness to learn has shown me that this has been the best professional decision I have made in my career.
I know that this year will be one for the record books not only for all the students and teachers but for me as well because we will work together as a village to make magic once again this year.
Our school is located in a low-economic neighborhood where about 90% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many come from broken homes that have been separated because of their dream to come to the United States or because of natural disasters. Some of the students in my school suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD), are ESL students (English as a Second Language), and/or have other types of special needs. Regardless of their challenges, though, the majority of the students are very determined and eager to succeed.
My Project
Our current set of headphones in the media center need to be replaced. Many had to be thrown out at the end of the school year and others the sound doesn't work or sound can only be heard from one side. The daily wear and tear took a beating on them. Even though, we ask the students to bring in their own set, many students are not able to afford to purchase their own set of headphones. Having a set of headphones will make things equitable for all students. Each student coming to research and listen to different reading, math and science programs will be responsible for maintaining and keeping the headphones organized and in good condition.
These headphones will allow students to focus on their own learning without interruptions of others around them while working on media center computers.
Headphones will also be used when classes are scheduled for different testing periods. It will provide a quiet atmosphere so that they may maintain a learning environment.
