This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember listening to your parents or teachers read to as a kid? My students love to sit around a listen to books read to them. With the start of a listening station, they will hear not only the books I read aloud, but other text of interest to them.
My students come from a wide range of cultural background in an inner city setting.
My school is a Title 1 school with more than 90% of students receiving free or reduced lunch. This last year, we went from a ÂÂDÂÂ grade to an AÂÂ! A huge part of that was the students taking ownership of the learning and the amazing staff in our building.
My Project
With the start of a new program with my students, one major component is a listening station. This allows students to hold a book in their hands, see the text in front of them, and hear the words. Incorporating higher level literature that is of interest to my students will allow them the opportunity to hear books that they enjoy but may not be able to read on their own.
To start with, this program will be utilized by myself as well as the four other classroom teachers on my 3rd grade team.
I hope to grow this program to be used by all staff in my building. This will provide exposer for all the students in my building to a wide range of text in a variety of ways.
