Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My elementary school is located in a high poverty urban community, comprised of many second language students. Many families in our district have relocated from non-English speaking areas. Families speak many languages, increasing the difficulty of supporting our home to school connection. Our students are lacking the items they need to be successful, although they are very eager to learn and are desperate to be accepted into our limited after school programs. If internet access is available to them at home, they use school supported websites to further explore subjects they love.

My students love using technology to enhance their learning.

All students may not have strong English language skills or support at home, but we have other students who are eager to help however they can.

It is an absolute pleasure, and privilege, to teach 2nd grade. At this age, there is nothing more rewarding than connecting with the students and watching the amazing impact that is possible.

My Project

Since the pandemic, my students are used to being on the computer when doing school work. Even now that we went back to "in-person" learning, students still use the computer for different district-wide programs. With that being said, my students need headphones to hear their computers and to alleviate noise for the other people in the classroom.

We can't hear, as a whole group, in the classroom either.

Since our classroom gets hot and muggy, it is necessary for us to turn on fans throughout the room to keep cool. The fans, make it difficult to hear; especially in the back of the room. A set of speakers for the teacher's computer will allow students to hear no matter where they are in the room.

These materials will help us to not have to say "Can you hear me now," anymore.
