Welcome to Speech! I have a great group of students who need a little bit of extra help when it comes to communicating and reading. I see children with articulation, language, and fluency concerns. I service 51 kids in a high-poverty area which includes: 2 preschool classrooms, 3 fifth grade classrooms, and 4 kindergartens, first, second, third, and fourth-grade classrooms. I also service one self-contained classroom for children with severe needs in all areas.
I love seeing my kids every week and helping them grow in their communication skills.
My students try very hard to improve their speech and language and I try to provide them with any tool that may help them succeed. I love nothing more than handing out a "Congratulations! You Graduated Speech!" certificate! I am very blessed in my job. It is very rewarding!
My Project
I work with students who have difficulty making certain sounds, but also students who have difficulty understanding which sounds to make and when. For example, the sounds /f/ and /th/ are commonly confused by students. Sometimes it's because they cannot say the /th/, but sometimes they do not know which words require a /th/ versus an /f/.
My students could greatly benefit from a program specifically designed to improve their ability to listen and discriminate sounds.
Not only would this system help them hear the differences in sounds and their phonological awareness skills, it would also help them improve their ability to comprehend what their teacher says through auditory memory training.
