My Students

We're a highly sought after neighborhood school that serves families from all types of backgrounds. We have students that wake up each day knowing they're loved and will be well cared for, and we have others who aren't so fortunate.

Our kids come in every shade of the human rainbow and embody all that is beautiful about childhood.

We have kids with learning and emotional disabilities, kids living in poverty, kids who are identified as gifted, kids we love. We meet each child where he or she is, and we support them as they grow into the individuals they are meant to be. They are special and unique individuals but not without their challenges.

My Project

We are becoming so tech savvy in fourth grade! Kids are using digital tools and learning to communicate in so many different ways. One of those is by recording their own videos and I have to say, they're getting pretty good!

Unfortunately, in a busy classroom the sound quality of recordings is often poor.

A microphone will allow each student to record his or her voice clearly, so they can be easily heard. After all, they have so much to say, and they need others to listen to their voices.

An added bonus is that I will be able to use the microphone as I record myself teaching. I've been working on becoming a National Board Certified Teacher, and part of the process involves recording my lessons on video to critically examine my practice. From these videos, I can learn areas of strength and areas where I need to focus on improvement, both for myself and for my students.

As much as we need and enjoy technology, we still have a love of the arts. Creating with brushes and paints is a time honored tradition in elementary school for good reason. So much thinking and problem solving goes into the creation of a piece of art. Concepts of color, line, texture, perspective, and more are learned by using those simple little paint sets and brushes.
