My Students

Our school is nestled at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains in a high-poverty area. I teach students with mild intellectual disabilities, autism, emotional disabilities, specific learning disabilities, and speech/language impairments. Many are struggling with academic and functional needs such as ADHD as well as deficits in social and emotional learning. Students work on increasing academic skills as well as daily living skills to allow them to have greater access and inclusion in their community. Students also take part in sports and leisure activities to keep them healthy and learn to work together as a team.

Despite the daily struggles of poverty, my students are eager to learn in order to increase their chances of success in the future.

Our students take advantage of free breakfast and lunch daily, as well as a weekend backpack program that provides food for weekends and holidays.

My Project

Our students use a daily software program for increasing reading skills in which they need headphones with microphones. Our current headphones are breaking and causing frustration for students who are already frustrated with reading.

Help relieve frustration for our students by giving new headphones with microphones that work when they use their reading program.

Continually starting over in their program because the microphones are not working causes much frustration for kids who already have a tough time with reading. Comfortable headphones with working microphones will make a world of difference in their lives. Thank you in advance for your help!!
