This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Second grade is such a critical year for many students. There is always a wide range of levels and abilities in my classroom. I have students that are still working on fluency skills, as well as students who are already reading chapter books!
My students all contribute different talents and skills to the classroom and learn from one another every day.
They all know that no matter where they are in the learning process we focus on helping each other move forward, instead of slowing each other down.
Second grade is where we start to shift the purpose of language arts from learning to read, to reading to learn. That is a huge step! Every day, we build relationships, encourage each other to follow directions, and learn to interact with each other in a kind way.
My Project
We use wonderful individualized reading and math programs on our Chromebooks every day in our classroom. The students need to hear the instructions and pronunciations of the words clearly without being distracted by other students' Chromebooks.
New headphones would help them to better focus on their own learning activities.
Unfortunately, many of our headphones are no longer working, and students need to either take turns with the headphones, or work without them. When the students work without headphones, they have to have their volume on, which distracts others who are working. We are excited to have new headphones to keep everyone focused and on track!
