My Students

I work as a Title I Reading Teacher in a rural, central Illinois community. Our school services students in grade K-5.

Our school has a warm, nurturing environment, where the teachers know the students by name and the students likewise know the teachers, even when the student is not in a teacher's class.

The majority of our students are now attending the same school as their parents. Our school may be small, but our size gives the school a family feel.

My Project

Have you ever listened to a beginning reader read? They usually pause between words, sound out many of the words, and ask for help reading the words. A beginning reader is excited to read to someone but never get to truly hear themselves read. Just imagine how happy they will be when they can listen to themselves read.

The Speak and Listen Recording Microphones will give my beginning readers the opportunity to hear themselves read.

They will be able to record themselves reading a fluency card into the microphone. After they have read the card, the student will be able to listen to their recording. As a teacher, I will be able to save all of the recording from the microphones to see how each student is progressing throughout the school year. I will also be able to see what words a student is having difficulties with and spend some additional time on the words.

The Speak and Listen Recording Microphones and the fluency cards are tools that my students will enjoy using. These items will take my beginning readers and help them to become more fluent and successful readers.
