My students need wireless, bluetooth headphones! We need these to make our transition into center time easier and to enjoy learning, without having to wait for the teacher to untangle cords!
Our Pre-Kindergarten program is in a public school in a small, rural town. My classroom consists of 16-18 children who are ages 4 and 5 and attend our every-day, full-day Prekindergarten program. Our school district has a very high population of homeless, low-income and/or substance abuse affected children. Many are not read to at home and have limited exposure to literature, so being able to provide literacy rich materials to all of my students is a huge priority for me.
Children at this age level experience many frustrations throughout their day, and while patience is an important skill to teach, this is one time where I have the ability to ease the frustration.

My Project
During our full day we have 2-3 extended learning (play) times where children have the opportunity to explore our classroom. Two of the most popular centers in our classroom run most effectively if children can use headphones to listen to online books, stories and activities. One center is a listening library where students use iPads to scan a QR code and listen books related to our theme. The other center is an iPad center where they can explore educational websites like Starfall and ABC Mouse. These headphones would allow them independence and safety to be able to participate in some of the favorite centers in our classroom.
My students are four and five years old and these headphones would help STOP the frustration of waiting for me to untangle cords, fix broken connectors and constantly replace the ear covers.
In addition, it would help save our iPads when distracted children decide to go for a walk. :)
An additional benefit of these headphones is that they are also able to be daisy-chained together, so more than one student can listen to a story or work together on a website. This is a feature I have not been able to use since the cassette players had the headphone adapters. Having this resource in my classroom would be such a blessing!
