My students need headphones! In our world of technology, computer required testing, and 1:1 iPad program in my district, headphones are a must! Unfortunately, our district does not provide any headphones, but every child needs them!
All of my students are unique and bright! They deserve the best that I can offer them. They come from all types of backgrounds. Some come from local shelters, while others come from privileged families. However, they all have one common strand, they want to learn and want to be excited about school.
I feel so lucky to teach at an extraordinary school with amazing colleagues and students that inspire me daily.
My ultimate goal is to make a positive impact every single day. My hope is that I continue to instill joy and fun into learning, because students learn best when they are engaged and happy. I'm going into my 14th year of teaching, and continue to reflect and work on my craft each year, to serve my students the best way I can. After all, teaching is like an art, and my students deserve a magical palette of colors to learn and create with.
My Project
In my 3rd grade classroom, students are expected to use technology daily. As much as I try to balance our screen time, many educational programs and mandatory district and state testing, are requirements. However, they do not provide us with headphones. The cheap ear buds, that I purchase for my students with my own money, break frequently, then many of them are at a loss and cannot do their work within our 1:1 iPad program. It's unbelievable that these items are not provided for my children.
Being able to focus on their iPad media and tests, that require sound, is imperative!
There's nothing more stressful for a kid, then when their earbuds break during an exam. In addition, they find those tiny earbuds quite uncomfortable and distracting. And kids cannot share earbuds if one breaks, because it's unsanitary. My students also create projects on iPads to show off their learning, and they need quality headphones to produce and listen to sound!
I want my class to be prepared to learn in the 21st century, and not be limited due to lacking resources. The possibilities are endless if I can have headphones on hand. They can create music, projects on seesaw, video blog posts, record their writing and listen to peers work, listen to stories on Epic, participate in a flipped classroom where they can hear me give them tips on their lessons in real-time, work in groups to explain their science experiments, create iMovies, and so much more! Yep, you need headphones to do all of that, especially when you've got limited space in a classroom of 32 students. In addition, they can be cleaned and used with future classes too.
