My scholars are some of the best students ever. I honestly never thought I could teach, let alone teach at a K-5 campus, but, once I met my first group of scholars, I knew that being their teacher was the place for me.
My school and I believe in teaching students rather than just teaching lessons.
This idea comes directly from one of the foundation pieces of our campus culture: “Believing and Showing that Everyone Is Someone!”
I usually welcome 28 unique individuals at our classroom door each day, and I strive daily to partner with them in creating lessons that cater to their abilities and learning styles. I draw them in by being creative and the enthusiasm and confidence of asking “Why?" has become a natural course of action in our lessons together. I feel that seeking the whys in our class will carry them through the rest of their lives.
This is a very important project for our classroom. We have been working on obtaining enough technology for a 1:1 ratio of tablets to scholars. In order to make a even bigger impact we will need quality headphones for each scholar as well.
Having 5 quality sets of headphones will allow our class an opportunity to reach all of our learners on their individual levels.
The online programs we have really allow scholars to work at their individual levels and reach their full potential. We have reading and math programs, but the most exciting program is our online financial literacy course our scholars participate in through Everfi! We are also hoping to include more coding into our classroom because our scholars have a big passion to learn about how computers and apps are designed. I also want to provide my scholars with some “cool” pens to keep them engaged and interested in the writing process as well working on neat handwriting. Our classroom is looking to keep up with the 21st century, and having the ability to adapt their learning styles whether it be technology with the headphones or drawing out their thoughts, all resources will really help my scholars succeed in the future!
