Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low income/high poverty district, my students often have difficulty keeping up with the technology initiatives of the district and/or school. They have a very healthy appetite for learning, but often don't have the resources needed. Despite the lack of funding and classroom resources, my students continue to persevere and find ways to succeed.

My students love learning through technology.

They are aware of how important technology has become to our society and strive to make sure they have all the skills necessary for success. That being said, they can still act like typical 5th graders in regards to energy. They learn the same way they play, fast! Sometimes it's difficult to channel that energy into creating a positive outcome but I provide tons of interesting and exciting lessons geared toward keeping them interested in learning. I'm hoping that using DonorsChoose will aid in out mission of learning!

My Project

In our classroom, we use a variety of different multimedia platforms to teach content. My students use programs and watch videos on laptops literally everyday. We visit numerous interactive learning sites and also have programs implemented by the district that requite the use of audio. Imagine 16 students trying to listen to the audio on their laptops without headphones. Now think about those students trying to focus on their own laptop without the use of headphones. That's a situation that no teacher or student should ever have to be in. Unfortunately, the headphones supplied by the district are falling apart and we no longer have enough for each child in the room. We have had to create innovative groupings to ensure that students will have the use of headphones. My students and I would be eternally grateful if we could finally get to a point where we are no longer having to borrow headphones.
