My students need the wireless microphone system to help encourage public speaking. This would be a great way for my student to become motivated to explain their answers during classroom instruction.
My third graders range between the age of 8-9 who come from varies economic and cultured backgrounds. Many of my students lack resources such as technology, Internet capability, parent support, and or motivation for learning. Many of my parents lack the education needed to review homework or class work with their third grader however students thrive to work hard in the classroom setting. The majority of my students receive free or reduced lunch. My third graders enjoy having fun while learning and often depend on a constant classroom structure daily.
Our third graders are forced to mature quickly in preparing for state testing which can carry a huge burden for the student and parent as well.
My parents are often surprised by the gains of their third graders as they make gains from the beginning of the school year. Overall my third graders are hard workers and determined to overcome any state test successfully.
My Project
The "Can You Hear Me Now," is a project that will motivate students to practice public speaking within the classroom. The wireless microphone would be a way for all students to clearly hear the speaker in hopes of building student’s confidence. As an educator, I aim to make teaching look fun and exciting because hopefully, I can inspire my students to enter the field of education. When students are explaining/answering a math problem I often challenge them to stand, make eye contact with their peers, and to speak with confidence as a teacher, this wireless microphone will help with students conquer the challenge. This method is also aligned with our districts listening and speaking curriculum, the microphone will help encourage students master such objectives. This method also helps students stay engaged and understand the content of the lesson or skill taught.
Secondly, the "Can You Hear Me Now," project is a way the listening audience can clearly hear their soft-spoken peer responses with use of the microphone.
I often find students can explain the findings of a science project or steps of a math problem however for some students, oral speaking can be a challenge in itself. Kids love speaking into a microphone, what better than a wireless microphone to help student’s desire to share their thoughts orally, loud and clear. The microphone will give my third graders a change to experience explore, know, aspire to be their best selves!
