My students love to do hands-on learning. They love friendly competition and arguing their answers with their peers. One of my favorite things about them is how excited they get when they finally have that "light bulb" moment.
My middle school is one of the most diverse in the state.
My students come to me from all different backgrounds, seeking a safe place. The area that I teach in has a very low socioeconomic status. My students are as different as can be, but they come together in my classroom and bond over math.
My Project
My middle school just recently became a one-to-one device school. This means that every student in the school now has a Chromebook to help them with their studies. As a teacher, this is super helpful in many ways. We have greatly cut down on the amount of paper that we use. Our students are more excited about lessons because we can offer more interactive lessons for them.
The only downside to this is that some students need headphones to be able to be successful with the Chromebooks.
Usually, when we do testing or an activity that will require it, I tell the students ahead of time to bring in their head phones or ear buds. Due to the socioeconomic status of the surrounding area, some of our students do not have headphones that they can bring in. The same is also true for computer mice. Some of the activities that we do are very difficult to do using a laptop's mouse pad, so many of my students would benefit from having computer mice available to them to borrow during class time. That is where you come in!
Please help fund this project so that my students will not feel singled out and will be able to borrow these items for my class. This will help my class become a more welcoming and inviting place with more interactive opportunities.
