My Students
"Oh, the Thinks you Can, Think" This quote by Dr. Seuss expresses what I want my students to learn, that there are no limits to what they can create, imagine or accomplish.
I teach first grade in a large public school district in Arizona. The school has been around for more then 35 years and has a reputation for being one of the best elementary schools. The students are proud to say where they go to school and are respectful, kind and accepting of people that may be different from them.
My Project
I am requesting variety of books on tape or CD. Besides hearing what fluency sounds like, and how expression can make a story come to life, the books on tape will provide students the opportunity to be transported into the story. Listening and following along as a story is read is a powerful tool to help children improve their own fluency, comprehension and expand their vocabulary.
The entire time I have been teaching, having stories read to my students is an activity everyone of them enjoys. To give them the chance to choose the story they want to "read" will empower them to want to read themselves.
