My Students

My students include everyone in our school because I have the privilege of teaching Music. The students in our school come from all socio-economic backgrounds and include students with mild to severe special needs. We have a large population of students whose parents are connected with the military, which can lead to increased student turnover. In addition, our community is an area of high-growth, so our student population increases every year!

I want to insure that my students have the most enriching musical experience possible, including development of their musical literacy and theory, performance opportunities, and a general appreciation and love for music.

Throughout the year, we present six vocal concerts: two for Veteran’s Day, two at Christmas, and two in the Spring. My students work with a variety of instruments, including hand drums in 3rd grade, recorders in 4th grade, and ukuleles in 5th grade. I love watching the development of their musical abilities from Kindergarten to 5th grade!

My Project

I teach Music in what used to be the kitchen at our elementary school. Needless to say, the acoustics are not the best. In addition, our school is experiencing rapid growth. This growth means that some of my Music classes have over 30 students at one time. Students often comment that they have a hard time hearing one another talk, sing, or present a song.

Having a classroom microphone, such as a Qball, would help the students with singing practice, solos, ukulele instruction, recorder instruction, and music theory games.

I also teach drama on Fridays to 4th and 5th graders and direct a drama club after school. The Qball microphone system would be wonderful to use during these activities! All told, over 600 students would use the Qball microphone system on a regular basis.
