Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are very diverse, but all are eager, creative, dedicated and hardworking dancers. This year, every single student in our school receives dance once a week! My students come to class excited and eager to learn new dance styles and skills. Because our program has grown to include every single student in the school, I am in need of supplies to teach all the grade levels from Pre-K through 5th grade.
For many of my students, this is their first and only exposure to dance!
They love to dance and often excitedly show me dances and movements they have learned and created. They are open-minded about and excited for this new experience, and I am inspired to work with them each day.
All students in 4th and 5th grades have the opportunity to audition for Dance Troupe. Dance Troupe is a before school club/team where my dedicated dancers are brought to school to learn dances and rehearse for our performances before the start of the school day. They are eager and excited, and it is so wonderful to watch them develop into proud performers. They look forward to our performances and love to show off their hard work.
My Project
My students are talented and brave performers who inspire me on a daily basis and they energize me to continue to bring new experiences for them. This past school year I created, directed and ran our school's first annual talent show. It was absolutely inspiring to see how my students rose to the occasion and put together a wonderful talent show showcasing their varied and fabulous talents. What was even more exciting and humbling was that there were around 350 audience members in attendance to support the performers in our beautiful and large Gymnasium/Auditorium. Unfortunately, the small portable PA system that we had at school this year was not powerful enough for our Spring Concert, or Talent Show and our wired microphone was hard to hear and a trip hazard. Unfortunately, it was quite difficult to hear the beautiful piano playing and singing from some of our students as our speakers and microphone could not handle the large auditorium and 350 person audience.
My talented performers want to be heard loud and clear at our performances and be able to share their talents with our school community and their families!
Seeing my students fully embrace performing and sharing their talents was such a rewarding experience for me. The pride they took in their performances was inspiring and amazing. Creating the talent show this year was hands down one of my proudest accomplishments as an educator to date, and I cannot wait to continue this tradition in my school. The wireless microphones and stands will help my students be heard loud and clear and share their talents with their families and school community for many years to come. Please help my students be able to confidently share their talents and continue to inspire their joy of performing!
