My Students

We are building our classroom from the ground up! At the beginning of the year our Kindergarten classroom was empty of any extras. Our school grew in enrollment but we had no budget to fill the room with manipulatives, activity centers or supplies. Thanks to Donors Choose we are changing that!

I have 21 Kindergarten students who love to learn!

They came to school with differing preschool experiences. These different experiences are reflected daily in the classroom. For example, in reading we have some students who are learning their letters and sounds, some who are blending sounds into words, and others who are reading. These diverse abilities and needs are best served in my classroom through the use of centers where the students work in groups of 4 to 8. Ideally each center would be run be an adult volunteer to keep the students on-task. We usually have 3 to 5 centers going at a time. Since it is difficult to find enough adults to volunteer in the classroom, I must have centers where the students can be successful independently.

My Project

I am asking for a listening center for my classroom with a CD player, headphones, and book and activity CDs. This would allow us to have one center that students could run themselves that would focus on their specific needs. Once taught how to work at the listening center, the students would be successful at running the center without direct adult supervision. The activity CDs requested in this project include letters and sounds, blending sounds to make words, and reading comprehension. The students would work on the activities that match their current reading level.

This project will meet the individual needs of students through the use of a listening center.

Students will work at their current reading level at a center that they run independently. Having one of our 3 to 5 centers being an independent listening center would allow me to teach at another center while adult volunteers help run other centers. My class will run smoothly, efficiently and will meet the individual needs of the students.
