I teach first grade at a wonderful Title I school where 50% of our student population participates in our free breakfast and lunch program.
Also, a significant number of our student population are English Language Learners. Our families come from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. Each child comes to school eager and ready to learn.
My Project
The listening center is an important teaching tool in the classroom. Multiple students can be immersed in a story and be transported to new places through the magic of a book. Listening center activities can also build reading skills, sight word vocabulary,and literacy skills. It helps with differentiating curriculum and is an important teaching tool for my English Language Learners. With classroom sizes increasing, classroom space has become limited. Cordless headphones allow students to sit at their own desks or at various places in the classroom without being overcrowded or hassling with headphone cords.
Help me create life long readers who have developed excellent skills by participating in learning opportunities at a listening center.
I hope that the "Chevron Classroom Challenge" can make a difference by providing my current class and classes in the future with cordless headphones to make education more productive and fun. Make a difference in a child's learning experience!
