I'm a middle school resource social studies teacher in a special education classroom for 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students in Honolulu, HI.
My special education students are awesome and hungry to learn in the right learning environment.
We are a low-income school and my students come from a wide range of backgrounds including local Hawaiian families, Micronesian families, Asian families, and many others. They're funny, kind, creative, and really want to know that I care about them as a teacher!
I work hard to create that learning environment for my students so that the learning meets the individual needs of each student who walks through my classroom!
My Project
Aloha! I'm a middle school Special Education resource teacher in the Aloha state of Hawaii. I love my students and I would love to create a calming space in my classroom. One of my overall goals in my classroom, especially during Covid times is that students would learn about and grow in their social emotional learning skills.
I need your help to get bring my vision to life of a calming space where students can go to practice mindful moments in the classroom.
My students really need to grow in their SEL practice and will benefit from this intentional space dedicated to helping them grow in their self awareness, self management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision making.
I learned all of this through professional development I took on Social Emotional Learning and everything included in this project will be focused on creating a calming corner, based on that learning and research.
