Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a variety of backgrounds with many different life experiences. Almost all of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. A few have rich academic experiences before entering school, while others have little to no educational resources or books at home. Despite this, my students come to school with a willingness to learn and trust me to meet their academic and emotional needs. They work hard to overcome obstacles inside and outside of the classroom. They are extremely resilient, and teach me about strength on a daily basis.

I want to provide a safe, nurturing environment where they can have positive learning experiences despite their circumstances.

My classroom will be a safe haven where students know they are cared for and valued while growing academically.

My Project

My students love working around the room during math and literacy station time! This can look like laying on the back or front carpet, sitting in a wobble chair, or reading under their desk with a pillow. When my students are moving more in the classroom, their learning increases as more oxygen flows to the brain. This also helps them form more positive connections at school, as they make friends while working!

Research shows that 6 and 7 year olds need frequent movement, and this project will allow for it!

With your donation and support, we will have enough materials for every student to have the opportunity to work around the room. They can choose to use a rocker chair or lapdesk to use anywhere, or sit at the back table and use the bouncy balls. Right now, we only have enough materials for 8 students to work easily around the room. I want all my students to have the opportunity for optimal learning and socialization.

My students will have something to look forward to when coming to my room everyday. This is especially important when living in poverty. They will have the safety and comfort of knowing something is "theirs" in our community of learners. In addition, they will learn better and have fun while doing it!
