This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My second grade students have inquisitive young minds that grow with each new concept they master. They are all unique and special in their own way. They come to our extended learning day school each morning eager to learn about the world around them.
As an extended day school, students spend 8 hours engaged in standards-based curriculum; as well as, enrichment activities such as cooking, yoga, art, music, and physical education.
Our classroom environment is positively enhanced through the use of Responsive Classroom and Mindfulness strategies to assist in maintaining a happy and peaceful learning community for all students.
My Project
My second grade classroom is currently furnished with 5 round student tables and one rectangular student table. I love these tables because they promote cooperative learning. Our round tables are wobbly and the students get frustrated when they are trying to work. These tables are always moving back and forth.
School budgets are tight which makes getting any new needed furniture basically impossible.
My only option would be to go back to older individual student desks that are in storage.
My classroom is small. Switching to all rectangular tables will help to maximize student learning space as well as help with movement around the room.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
