Our district implemented 1-to-1 devices in 2020 to create 21st-century learners, by implementing Chromebooks for each student to take home. Now, 4 years later, they are taking them back for K-5 students, and its back to paper/pencil. With this new change, I now need to print more information for our interactive notebooks than before, as they could use their digital notebooks previously to reference at home. To do this I need to be able to print, in color, the pages required. I teach K-5 Gifted/Accelerated students, and we also create a variety of digital print projects that I would love to be able to print for them to keep a hard copy of their work.
The printers in my 2 different schools are located in different parts of the building and when attempting to print, we are left running back and forth around the school to reload, remove a paper jam, or find the document that someone has taken to their class by accident.
It is a huge time waster. The printer will allow them to print their projects and retrieve them with ease so that they can in turn share their work with their family and have their color notes available for reference at home. With a printer in the classroom, I can make the home-school connection for my students meaningful while still engaging them in 21st-century learning.
