Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a Title I school in a city school district. In our public city school, many scholars are diverse, multiple language learners, and at-risk readers. Currently, the entire school population receives free breakfast and lunch. Many scholars are also from low-income households. However, they are warm, loving, and continually searching for ways to grow and become better each day. I am honored to teach such wonderful children.
I enjoy providing scholars a multitude of experiences to connect the curriculum and enhance their learning while promoting equitable access and allowing them to be creative and stimulate their curiosity.
My scholars are eager to learn, excel and connect the curriculum in the school library media center. As the school librarian, I am able to reach every student in the school. I have been teaching for nineteen years and I take a great deal of pride in my work. I strive to make learning fun and engaging as I have been focusing on transdisciplinary learning to help scholars have authentic and powerful learning experiences.
My Project
The school library will use the Cricut mug press and blank mugs to make and design. After researching female STEM contributors, high school students will learn about women from the past that used science, math, and technology to build careers and meaningful lives by giving back to the communities. They will learn to make different products and designs on the requested supplies. The Cricut will teach STEM skills as it is an advanced piece of equipment that also allows users to design their own work.
By implementing hands-on learning, scholars will better remember lessons taught and experience the "ah-ha" moment where learning is internalized.
Additionally, the Cricut will promote and popularize the makerspace and foster student voice, creation, and collaboration.
Thank you for your time, consideration, and support of public school children. When you care about them, you care about the future of our country.
