This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My second-grade class consists of second language learners. I teach at a Title I school where students receive free lunch. About 80% of our students come from economically disadvantage homes. They are always energetic, motivated, and enthusiastic to learn new skills. Students will meet daily for 30 minutes in small groups of five or individually to gain foundational math skills and financial literacy skills. With these rekenreks, students will learn how to collaborate, talk about math, develop confidence, and build a strong math foundation. They are given support and tools to meet these goals. This promotes a community of independence and accountability.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
