My students need 8 Reading resources, including Reading First Activity Centers, Reading Comprehension Practice Cards and a set of Increasing Fluency Activities with Read-Along CD.

This project is fully funded

My classroom is an inner city classroom in a high poverty area of Maryland. We lack many of the essential resources necessary for adequate instruction and the teacher is essentially forced to purchase materials to extend the horizons for her scholars.

Our school is a Reading First School. We are mandated by No Child Left Behind to improve our instruction by teaching a prescribed reading program and providing interventions for struggling children based on a skills based assessment. But that leaves those few students that are reaching the benchmark score and above with little to no means of making even more improvements. So the teacher has to develop activities to "keep them busy" when I feel that if I could provide those benchmark students with enrichment, they would increase even more!

If I could give these students that are doing well activities in fluency, vocabulary, phonics, and comprehension that would extend their abilities, I would feel that I have definitely done everything in my power to make readers for a lifetime.

Please fund my proposal for empowering my stronger readers to become superkids! We, as a nation, are leaving them out and have become too preoccupied with the strugglers! Give these children with the potential to excel the means to get there!
