This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I have some of the most endearing second-grade scholars! They are curious, creative, and supportive of one another. Best of all, they are excited about learning.
As many 7-8-year-olds are, my students are very active.
One part of staying engaged in learning includes opportunities for movement and choice! A common request I get during independent work time or partner work is, "Ms. T, can I sit on the carpet?". Flexible seating options would provide my students with additional movement opportunities and autonomy to decide which setting is best for them to remain engaged in learning and be accountable for their work.
We are fortunate to have a new carpet in our classroom, but sitting on it for an extended time can be rough on derrières and knees! Thick floor cushions are a perfect solution and can also be used throughout the classroom to create more spaces for collaboration.
Finally, for my most active students (who enjoy moving their bodies while they work), wobble stools can provide them with opportunities for movement that would not disrupt or interfere with others' learning.
DonorsChoose is the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
As a teacher-founded nonprofit, we're trusted by thousands of teachers and supporters across the country. This classroom request for funding was created by Ms. Trotman and reviewed by the DonorsChoose team.
