Have you met the child of today? He or she is a technologically savvy individual that can multitask using mobile devices. Teaching has not yet caught up to the abilities of today's youth. I want to incorporate these mobile devices into daily teaching in all subject areas.
My students attend a school that has an astounding percentage of Title 1 qualifying children.
85% of the children receive free or reduced priced lunch. Although my students are technologically savvy and have opportunities to use a parent's Smart phone device, they do not have access to a computer or Internet otherwise. Using apps and programs that support apps will allow parents to download necessary learning material on their phones and connect their children to a broader range of learning options.
My Project
I am requesting an iPad 2 that I can use with my students in class. My students use my personal iPad 2 now, but I would like to have the ability in all subject areas to have student iPads so I can incorporate small group instruction using apps. All subject areas benefit from the iPad I have in the class currently, but not all students benefit. Having more iPads would allow more students to be technologically engaged.
Today's fast pace world is driven by technology.
I am preparing children for careers that REQUIRE knowledge of technology that haven't even been created yet. Engaging children in school is more crucial than ever and I believe that by building on their love of tech devices and using them to practice math, science, reading, and language that the spark of learning will be brought back to so many of my students that are losing it.
