This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The music theory classes that are part of this proposal contains students from 10-12 grades. They come from the different performing groups within the school. The students are very interested in the challenging music topics covered in these classes. This class is preparing our music students for the A.P. Theory Class which is available their senior year. The school district is considered low income. This makes it necessary for our music department to supply students with educational equipment and supplies for some of our extended projects and lessons that they they do not have access to at home.
Many of my students do not have pianos or keyboards at home. When they have a challenging music composition project they often ask if they can borrow a school keyboard to help them as they complete their projects. It would be awesome if we had keyboards reserved for student home use. I know that my students would greatly benefit from this kind of program.
The funds from this proposal will be used to purchase two keyboards and carrying cases. This will give students an opportunity to borrow a keyboard to work on music or homework projects. This kind of program would fill a very important need for many of my low income students. Providing keyboards for home use will help them learn and experience the concepts that are being taught in class. Many of these tasks require drill and practice that will require students to practice at home. Many of our students will pursue music education in college. Adding this kind of educational resource will allow our program to move our students to a higher level of participation and learning as they develop their abilities in preparation for college.
Your help will make it possible for my students to experience music education at a very high level. Because of limited funding at my school we are not able to provide this kind of resource to our students at this time. With your help we can make this opportunity possible.
