This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This school year is starting out with a bang! I moved to 5th grade after teaching 2nd grade for nearly 18 years. It is such a gift to get to work with many students I had in grade two a second time. I feel I have been given a "second chance" to be apart of some of their lives again. Everything is exciting and terrifying all at the same time. Have you ever felt this way?
I work in GGU which is an urban school district in Orange County, California.
Many of my students live in multigenerational homes or apartments and my school site is 100% free and reduced lunch. My classroom consist of 27 medium sized humans who are thrilled to be back at school for full day instruction.
Through the pandemic, our school site provided devices and hot spots to a majority of families seeking tools to continue schooling. Over these past 18 months, I have personally grown in my technology use and the families in our community have grown too. This proves to be an another exciting school year and I know the best is yet to come!
My Project
Help me give our students lots of books to read, hold, and discuss now that we are back in school full time. Over the past 20 months, we have not been able to use books and we are excited to begin reading this chapter book. Our library us desperate for books as many shelves are barren. Each week students are seeking the same books (I Survived, Percy Jackson, Diary of the Wimpy Kid, etc...).
Reading is a passport to countless adventures each day.
Students at Eisenhower need books to help them with these adventures. Help me give our school sets of chapter books, picture books, novels, and teacher read alouds to fill our shelves in our library.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
