Do you have a pencil I can borrow?", is a phrase I hear numerous times a day. I can't believe how many pencils I have already handed out this year. With the economy the way it is, a simple thing like a pencil is harder to come by.
I currently teach 105 middle school math students.
Students on a daily basis are asking for materials. I began the year with no less than 500 pencils and pens, and my supply has dwindled away. I have even raided my own drawers at home to bring in writing utensils for the students. I would love to rebuild this and allow all my students the chance to be successful.
My Project
What better way to guarantee success? Pencils and various other tools will help further a child's education. A student should come to school prepared. If their parent or guardian is not able to provide them with the essentials, I feel it is my job to do so. A simple thing, like a pencil, would be beneficial.
By providing my classroom with appropriate writing tools, you will decrease some of the stress students might be feeling with the economy, and at the same time, help out the classroom.
Thank you so much for considering this simple, yet effective project.
