My students need 100 packs of pencils and an electric pencil sharpener for the school year to ensure that a lack of basic materials is not holding students back from learning!
"The development of general ability for independent thinking and judgment should always be placed foremost." - Albert Einstein. This is the philosophy of my science classroom and one of the major ways that I get students to do this is to write!
I teach sixth grade science in a low-income school in New Orleans, Louisiana.
I teach at a charter school whose aim is to empower students to live happy, healthy lives with unlimited possibility. With our extended school year and hard-working teachers, we are committed to making our students reach their maximum potential. Our students are brilliant and they deserve all the resources to prove it.
My Project
One of the biggest challenges we have in our classroom is when our students lack the most basic of materials to be successful in school. It would be a huge lift on teachers and my students if we had a supply of pencils and a sharpener to ensure that kids are prepared to fully engage in exploratory learning of science which requires them to observe and write, theorize and write some more!
I am asking for pencils and a sharpener to help my students express their learning in writing.
By donating to my students, you will be supplying them with a basic resource that many of us took for granted in school. Your donation would ensure that there are enough pencils for all my students to use for the year. You will be ensuring that my students come to school excited about learning instead of being stressed about needing to ask, "Can I borrow a pencil, please?!"
Thank you!
