In my classroom, doing nothing is never an option. So if doing nothing is not an option, what do you choose? That's where the "can do" centers come into the classroom. I want to provide my students with lots of stimulating and engaging activities for these "can do" centers.
I work in a public school that serves a diverse population of students.
My students are a highly motivated and hardworking group of children. They love to socialize and work together on things. Giving them both stimulating problem solving and skill enhancing activities like the math electronic flashcards and Rush Hour, along with paired games will give them the social and intellectual stimulation they crave. In addition, I want to provide them with engaging centers that they "can do" when they are done with traditional classwork.
My Project
My students need logic games, math fact games, electronic flash cards, and other independent activities. Students will be able to choose these activities any time they are finished with the required work for each class. They can choose "can do" centers when they arrive in the morning or they might work on "can do" centers when they complete their classwork. "Can do" centers are meant to be stimulating and engaging activities that are varies so there is something for every student.
By providing these activities, the students will not be bored waiting for the next lesson or activity to begin.
Instead they will have lots of varied opportunities for extending their learning.
