In my role as a special education teacher for grades 5-8; I serve 28 students - many whose first language is Spanish. Some student’s families are from Nigeria, Nepal, and other faraway place. We are a school of immigrant families; of scholars, musicians, athletes and more.
I am grateful to have the opportunity to teach some of the most endearing, inspiring and eager-to-learn students in one of the most culturally and economically diverse neighborhoods in Chicago and the nation; where more than 80 languages are spoken among the community's residents - and my local neighborhood public school sits in right in the heart of it!
Learning a new language and adapting to a culture and environment can be a challenge - add to that a learning disability and the demands of the academics for a student with special needs and school can become especially trying.
However, as mentioned, my kids are always eager-to-learn, happy to meet the daily challenges, and willing to do their daily best to achieve their goals. They make me proud each and every day.
My Project
I teach an amazing group of 5th-8th grade diverse learners who don't often feel confident to work with technologies as the same pace with some of their peers.
BOTLEY ROBOTS offer a student-friendly coding opportunities for even the most naive learners -- kids love BOTLEY ROBOTS!
I know that my students will work harder and smarter in science and math class as they grow their coding and design skills. They are super excited about this project. Every classroom should have an opportunity to work with coding and we are beyond excited to have this project funded. Thank you in advance for considering us
