Help me give my students the best experience ever to go on their camping trip! We will be taking buses out to the Santa Cruz mountains and camp outdoors for 2 nights.

Hooray! This project is fully funded
I work in the South of Market (SoMa) neighborhood at a small K-8 school. Our diverse community feels like a family and we work hard to make sure that each student is feeling supported and is learning. Most of my students come from historically under-served communities and we often try to teach through the lens of social justice to help our community rise up. We are usually low on resources and would love any support for my wonderful, inspiring students.
This trip is to support our students in getting outdoors and learning about the nature that exists close by their homes. For many of our students, this will be their first time camping outdoors so far from San Francisco. We will be going deep into the mountains and may even be able to see stars that they have never been able to see!
There will also be deep connections to what we are learning in Science Class.
We will be studying Genetics, Natural Selection, and Human Impact on Genetic Variation. With our trip into nature, we will be taking time to study the world around us and collect live data to study in class.
Finally, this trip will have many moments for reflection, team building, and time for social-emotional growth. In efforts of being a trauma-informed, restorative justice school, we strive to provide moments for our students to feel like they are a part of our community. This trip will help unify us in ways I cannot yet even imagine.
